Florian Plans To Stay Busy, Not Wait For Title Shot
MMA Junkie grabbed the story:

"For me, I don't want to wait around," Florian said. "I want to stay busy, and I want to fight, so I'm hoping I can get another fight in between, and if B.J. sticks around at 155, then I can fight him later. We'll see what happens. I just want to stay busy and keep fighting top guys.

"I definitely want to get a fight in by December before January. I want to stay busy. I think I'm able to perform at a higher level -- at a better level -- if I stay busy (fighting) every three or four months. I let the UFC know that, and I'll be calling them in the next couple weeks to find out what's going on."

KRAV: Aint that the truth! I'm one of the few that picked him over Huerta. I have to admit, I absolutely love his style of fighting. The dude LITERALLY gets better EVERYTIME. It's crazy. My guess is that he's naturally athletic, learns quickly, has a shit ton of heart, and rarely makes the same mistake twice. All that combined with the fact that he fights with an extreme amount of intelligence, as opposed to a wild/brawling style, and it works wonders for him. Not only that, he ends up F'n people up while he's delivering his blows that he seems to have down to a science. That's a good weight class for him. I'd like to see him take on Sherk again. Penn would just waste him.

Great idea. Sherk needs a win and Florian would be apt to do whatever it takes to not loose a fight before his title shot. It would be a great battle.

Florian beat Huerta by not fithting him. He ran backwards the whole fight. Its a smart gameplan. If he had fought for the submission or knockout he would have been ko'd himself. Great gameplan for the win and also a smart move on Florians part. But you cant say Florian is a better FIGHTER. Huerta wants to put on a good fight and win. Florian just wants a win. Huerta with a year or two will be better than Florian. Both from scratch and no experience Huerta is the tougher man. But it doesnt really matter though. BJ Penn is the man in the lightweight division. Niether Florian nor Huerta can beat him now or later. The rest will just fight for the number one contender spot and for better paydays......

I ment to say is you take Huerta and Florian both with no experince and make them fight for the finish. I am extremely confident that Huerta would dominate Florian. Huerta with the same amount of experience as Florian had when they fought, Huerta would win. Huerta is a better actual fighter.... Give him a year or two he will be better that Florian....

Not. Florian might of backed up some, but he was fighting from different angles and took Huerta apart. He hit him with I don't know how many power shots. A good fighter doesn't stand in one spot and swing for the fences. Didn't you ever hear of a thing called foot work. One other guy that fights defensibly is Chuck Liddell. Niether Liddel, or Kenflo are boring fighters.

Hey Chief! I understand why you say what you say about Florian's win, and that others may agree with you. I do not. I've pasted here a very informed, and accurate description of the fight that I found on Fight Matrix.

"In a very competitive fight that wasn’t quite as fast paced as most fans expected, Florian fought a very measured and technical bout and was able to shut down most of Huerta’s offense. Through all three rounds, Florian avoided the brawl that Huerta was trying to impose, and picked Roger apart with kicks and punches, dazing him several times in the later rounds. Florian also was able to get several takedowns and dominated Huerta on the ground, though Roger escaped back to his feet every time. Florian took every round on all three judges scorecards.

The aftermath: This was thought to be a number one contender bout, but with BJ Penn’s desire to move back up to welterweight, it’s not clear what will happen next for Florian or the lightweight title picture. Regardless, Florian moves up the middleweight ranks while Huerta’s six-win UFC streak is over.

Fight grade: 4.5/5"

I would love to know exactly when you think Huerta was hurt or stunned. And Chuck Liddell never backs up for the entire fight. Chuck is a COUNTER striker not a DEFENSIVE fighter. There is a hugh difference in a counter striker and a defensive fighter. If Huerta wouldnt have pressed the fight then they would have just had a starring contest. Where did you read in my statement that he is a boring fighter. Dont put words in my mouth... If you will recall I said Florian fought a smart fight, but Huerta is a better FIGHTER. Huerta has way less training and it showed Huerta will be the better fighter in 1-2 years.... Why dont you watch it again and count how many times Florian walked straight backward. And Roger had to chase him backward... So dont give me this shit on him being anything like Chuck Liddell......

I do agree that Florian won the fight and I dont dispute his game plan. My point is Huerta is a better pure fighter. With more experience and training he will pass Florian up.

P.S. you are right GREGOR it does take good foot work to run backwards. And i know what a good fighter is smart man... tank abbot swings for the fences. Roger Huerta is an agressive fighter. Fedor Emelianenko is an agressive fighter. Randy Couture is an agressive fighter. Chuck Liddell dispite his counter striking style is an agressive fighter. Wanderlei Silva is an aggressive fighter. You dont have to back pedal to be a technical fighter.

Interesting conjecture and opinions gentlemen, but when push came to shove, Florian did more damage, had more takedowns, and took more dominant positions. On the day in question, Kenny Florian was, and is, the better fighter. We all know styles make fights, and you may favor one style over another, but we should all respect the one thing that ultimately matters most, and that's victory. Lyoto Machida, anyone?

Yes I agree!!! Winning is most important. Wether I agree with the gameplan or not. Winning is definately the most important thing..... I just tend to follow agreesive badasses a fighters. I do like some gameplan fighters though, such as Randy Couture. But Randy usually pushes the pase. But over all the crowd will follow winners....

It's hard to get 4 take downs when you run straight backwards.

Chief Slapaho

Its easy! you back up all the way until you cant anymore and then you shoot in for a take down. I have seen it many times. Just admit that Florian knew he would lose if he fought straight up. I aint takin nothing away from Florian. He won fair and square. The point is Florian HAD to be elusive to win the fight.....Thats the bottom line......

I do have a compliment for you though GREGOR. I respect your allegiance to your favorite fighters. You will defend Florian til the end. I am the same way with my favorite fighters....
